About the memorial: The memorial commemorates those lost from HMS Hampshire in 1916, some of whom are buried in the cemetery. The memorial was erected by their shipmates and is seperate from the graves. If this marked the site of their burials then it would not be a war memorial but a gravestone but it is understood they are seperate so this is included. The cemetery also includes Commonwealth War Graves Commission graves, cemetary features such as a cross and other war memorials see WMO/202640, WMO/273081, WMO/273082, WMO/273084 and WMO/273086. To avoid an incorrect extra record being added the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cross of Sacrifice has been combined with HMS Hampshire on this record so people can see it for now. This is not a war memorial but a CWGC cemetery feature see the Protection tab. It is under the care of the CWGC whose graves and memorials are offical commemorative sites as opposed to local or community war memorials created by public subscription which are the focus of this website. See the What is a war memorial section of this website for further information. In due course all CWGC cemetery features will be removed from the webiste but to minimise extra records being added it has, for now ben left here. Once the CWGC records have eben removed this will be the record for HMS Hampshire.
