About the memorial: Obelisk dedicated to those from Headingley who lost their lives during the First World War. First World War memorial. c1920. Designed by Sidney Kitson. White Portland stone with bronze decorative motifs. Stepped base, square 2-stage plinth with inscriptions surmounted by obelisk with cross on S side. Inscriptions: on the W side 'THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE', on the N side: 'TO THE MEMORY OF THE MEN OF HEADINGLEY WHO FELL IN THE WAR 1914'. A plaque on each side has lists of names. The lower plinth has attached bronze wreaths and plaques, some missing. Railings recently added to steps. c Historic England listing entry
