About the memorial:
Information tablet on wall of Canongate Kirk, together with two WW1 memorials and one WW2. As they form a group and were moved to this site together they can be seen as one overall memorial. These war memorials were transferred from the Scottish & Newcastle Breweries at Abbey and Fountainbridge and mark the historic connection between the Parish of Canongate and the brewing industry. It is not possible to distinguish which of the two WW1 memorials came from which original location without further research. The current IWM Register entry only refers to the WW2 plaque. The memorials are on the left wall of the kirk as viewed from the front.
