About the memorial: Within the church at the front of the nave, on the wall adjacent to the WW1 memorial plaque.A framed and glazed memorial to 15883, L/Cpl James Hewitson, 1/4th Bn, King's Own (Royal Lancaster) Regt, providing an account of the service of James Hewitson, and winning the VC at Givenchy on 26 April, 1918. The memorial includes buttons and the badge of the King's Own, a replica VC, and a photograph of Hewitson in WW1. NOTE: This is not strictly a war memorial as Hewitson did not die until 2 March, 1963, although as a consequence of his wartime service he spent more than 16 years in mental institutions. He lies buried in the churchyard adjacent to the war memorial.Edit memorial details
