About the memorial: Brass plaque mounted on a wooden board. Situated in the entrance hall to St Mary's Guild Hall. It commemorates Coventry citizens who volunteered to serve in the South African War between 1900-1902 most with the 2nd Volunteer Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment and the Warwickshire Imperial Yeomanry. The badges of both units are inscribed on the tablet. There is a foliate border top and bottom, with an architectural design on the vertical edges.

This Tablet is erected by the citizens of Coventry to commemorate the patriotism of members of the auxiliary forces who volunteered from Coventry for service in South Africa 1900-01-02. At the bottom is inscribed ' Those marked thus * lost their lives on service' And 'The initial letters opposite each name indicate the branch of service as follows: V = Volunteer IY = Imperial Yeomanry SAC = South African Constabulary CMR = Cape Mounted Rifles CAN MR = Canadian Mounted Rifles
