About the memorial: Marble wall tablet dedicated to the memory of the residents of Wellow, Foxcote, and Shoscombe who lost their lives during the First World War; also as a thanksgiving for the safe return of all those that served during the Second World War. The memorial tablet forms part of a 'warrior chapel' in the south aisle of the church; there is also a stained glass memorial window in the east end of the south aisle, which features images of St Alban, St Michael, and St Louis, as well as the badges of twelve military units. The marble tablet reads: TO THE GLORY OF GOD THE WINDOW AND THIS TABLET WERE ERECTED BY THE PARISHIONERS AS A THANKSGIVING FOR THE VICTORIOVS TERMINATION OF THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918 AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF WELLOW WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE REQVIESCANT IN PACE [NAMES] The memorial was unveiled by Lord Bath in late June or early July 1921 (Bath Chronicle, 2 July 1921, p. 12). The tablet was originally placed under the east window. It looks as if the tablet was moved and reset in the south wall within an extended inscribed stone framework after the Second World War, as the latter has the inscription: THIS CHAPEL IS RESTORED AND FURNISHED AS A THANKSGIVING TO COMMEMORATE THE ALLIED VICTORY IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR 1939-45 AND THE SAFE RETURN HOME OF ALL WELLOW SONS AND DAUGHTERS WHO SERVED 1950
