About the memorial: In 1922 a grant was obtained to remove and set back part of the front of St. James' churchyard wall, the space being then available for the war memorial. The memorial, a granite Celtic cross, was unveiled on 4th March 1923. A granite Celtic cross on a square tapering plinth on a two stepped base, the area is backed by a semi-circular wall. On this wall the original capping was removed and replaced by stone pieces inscribed with the dedication and the names of five men who fell in 1939-145.
