About the memorial: A propellor from HMS Cavalier, mounted on a brick plinth, with a display board giving its history. Unveiled by Rear Admiral J Hervey C.B., O.B.E. and Councillor Mrs M O Stolworthy B.A. 27th May 1995. There is also a small plaque on the adjoining brick flower beds in memory of those who lost their life in WW II. The MEMORIAL HAS HAD A NUMBER OF SITES. MOVED TO ITS PRESENT SITE WHEN PURCHASED AND RESTORED BY SOUTHERN WATER IN 1994

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

Main Plaque-This propellor which came from H.M.S. Cavalier/ was donated to the people of EAST COWES by SOUTHERN WATER/ The H.M.S. Cavalier Association has presented this memorial in recognition of the/ shipbuilders/ of J. Samuel White and the sailors who gave their lives for their country./ The propellor and memorial garden was unveiled jointly by/ Rear Admiral J Hervey C.B., O.B.E. and Councillor Mrs M O Stolworthy B.A./ this day 27 May 1995. Secondary Plaque-In memory of those who/lost their lives in air raids/on this town./1939 - 1945
