About the memorial: Rough stoned small cross set on a 3 stepped top, containing dedication and a small crown in relief, standing on a rectangular plinth with etched names in black. The memorial is to RNAS and civilian personnel killed by enemy action at nearby RNAS Ford airfield on 18th August 1940. Ten of those killed are buried near the memorial in a CWGC-maintained plot, a further 13 killed being buried elsewhere.

THIS MEMORIAL IS ERECTED BY THE CAPTAIN, OFFICERS AND MEN OF THE ROYAL NAVAL AIR STATION, FORD. IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO LOST THEIR LIVES AS A RESULT OF ENEMY ACTION ON THE 18th AUGUST 1940.
