About the memorial: Originally sited close to the current location in 1922, this memorial was moved due to road improvements in 1962, then around 25 years later, moved again, now standing at the corner of Church St. & High St. Octagonal three-stepped base surmounted by an octagonal plinth with eight inscription panels. Rising from the plinth is a tapering stout octagonal pillar with a caped standing figure of St. George holding a bronze lance. This statue of St. George is now orientated facing in a different direction to the original view.
