In loving memory of Brigadier General Cecil Godfrey Rawling C.M.G.; C.I.E.; D.S.O. Somerset Light Infantry. Commanding 62nd Infantry Brigade. Born 16th February 1870. Raised and commanded 6th Battalion Somerset Light Infantry Ypres 1915. 1916. 1917. Somme 1916. Arras 1917. Killed in action at Hooge Flanders. 28th October 1917. Beloved by all ranks. For his explorations in Tibet where he determined the source of the Bramahputra and in Dutch New Guinea, he was awarded the gold medal of the Royal Geographical Society. Mens aequa in arduis rebus. Erected by his mother.
