About the memorial: The memorial consists of a garden area, fenced off from the road by metal railings and a gate and two grassed areas. The left hand grassed area contains a flagpole (usually) flying the Isle of Man flag. The centrepiece is a rough hewn Celtic cross bearing a stone tablet in remembrance of those from the town who gave their lives during WW1. The back of the garden area consists of a wall bearing three name tablets. The central one (probably a later addition) bears the WW2 names and the two flanking tablets, those from WW1. All are given as SURNAME - FORENAME (or INITIALS) and no further details. Left-hand tablet contains 39 names '1914-1918 in memory of'. Middle tablet contains list of 36 names '1939-1945 in memory of'. Right-hand tablet contains list of 39 names '1914-1918 in memory of'. Names are generally listed alphabetically with a few exceptions.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.
