About the memorial: In the North Porch there are now two oak plaques on the west wall dedicated to 134 of those from All Saints Church Maidenhead who lost their lives during the First World War. It has long been suspected that the original board was moved from its original site on the west wall to the east wall of the north porch this left it exposed to sunlight which increased the darkening of the oak. The original English Oak Board had darkened in the 98 years since 1920 so it was difficult to read the black writing. During 2017 restoration and renovation work has been carried out on the original board containing 127 names. A new smaller Board also made in oak to match the original board has been made and placed below the original board for 7 missing First World War names discovered after extensive research. These have now been added on the left side of the new board and on the right hand side a new section added under the heading “Subsequent Actions after WW2” one name has been added to this section a soldier who died in Afghanistan. Both boards are now on the west wall where the original board was first located. The Calvary referred to on the original Board is outside the Church on the west wall. The names on the wooden Boards in the North Porch are remembered by the Stone Calvary, which has the dates 1914-1918 and 1939-1945 on the Stone Calvary under the feet of the stone figure of Christ and above where it says 'To the Glory of God and in Memory of the Fallen'. This is where poppy wreaths are laid on Remembrance Sundays and at other Services of Remembrance. The Parish magazines of 1920 tell us that there was not enough money raised to inscribe the names in stone outside, which is why they were written in black on the light-coloured original English Oak Board. Now that the renovation and relocation work has been completed as well as the new memorial board added with improved lighting and the original WW2 roll has also been reframed in a properly fitting frame. We now feel we better honour and remember the 134 Fallen from the Parish of All Saints Boyne Hill Maidenhead in the First World War, the 15 from the Second World War and 1 soldier who has died in a subsequent action - Afghanistan in 2009. The new display also has a framed interpretation panel giving details of the memorials plus a book stand (old confessional stall) with two research books into the 134 Fallen from the First World War, the 15 Fallen from the Second World War and 1 from Afghanistan. This information can also be seen on the church website www.allsaintsboynehill.org.uk at 'About Us', 'History'
