About the memorial: Drax grammar school was founded in 1667 by Charles Reade an a grammar school for local boys. In 1967 the then-voluntary aided grammar school converted to full independence in 1967. The core school buildings date from the grammar school era, and were built between 1853 and 1908. The memorial library was built in 1954 by the Drax Grammar School Old Boys’ Association in memory of those killed during World War II. Access to the site is restricted due to the Library being in the grounds of the public school. The School Library contains a stone memorial plaque, listing the Old Boys of the school who gave their lives during the Second World War. Set within the exterior brick wall of the library is a memorial consisting of a stone tablet and stone frame inscribed with a list of names. Above this is a frieze of doric Triglyph and above this is a stone tablet with dedication inscription. The picture of the memorial has been provide with thanks to the School.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
