About the memorial: The memorial takes the form of an arched gateway at the entrance to Fodderty Cemetery. The pitched roof is surmounted by a cross and there are bronze plaques for WW1 on either side of the arch. The arch is fitted with wrought iron gates. Decorative wrought iron gates go across the entrance. Either side of the gateway are wrought iron gates for pedestrian access supported by gate posts. Dedicatory inscription and WW1 names on bronze plaques placed on the inner part of the gateway and on the rear of the right hand gatepost. Gaelic inscriptions on tablets set into the cemetery side of the gateway. WW2 inscription on a bronze plaque beneath them. A dove of peace with olive branch in its mouth is depicted on the WW1 name plaques. Two Scottish shields placed at the foot of the cemetery side of the archway posts. A lyre is depicted at the top of the cemetery side of the archway. The main gates are decorated with wreaths of laurel and thistles. In the centre is a hand holding a flaming torch.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.
