About the memorial: Large, tall column, with wreaths and metal plaques with dedication & names, surmounted by Victory sculpture. Stands on 3 step base. War Memorial. c1920, moved 1966. Fine ashlar with metal, probably bronze, plaques and figure. In severe classical style. Stepped base leads to tall finely moulded cenotaph - like pier with an attached half-pier to sides. Around the plinth are relief and inscription panels. Further tall panels on the sides listing the names of the fallen. Decorative panel to front, lion's head panel at the top of each side half-pier. The memorial is topped by a life-size half-kneeling female figure with flay and with her oustretched arm holding a wreath. This memorial was formerly in Stourbridge town centre and was moved here in 1966 as the result of a road scheme. c Historic England listing entry Maker John Cassidy RBS, The Bromsgrove Guild, Ernest W Pickford, Martins Of Cheltenham • Unveiled Date: 25th February 1923 Attended by: Earl of Coventry Hobson/J E Hobson/H Hale/H Clements Concrete foundation surmounted by granite base and Darley Dale stone plinth. Relief design panels on the front and rear of the plinth. Main shaft of the memorial has bronze plaques on the sides with the inscriptions. Surmounting the whole on the moulded cap is a bronze figure of peace holding out wreath in one hand and with a flag in the other either side of the top of the shaft are two bronze laurel wreaths surrounding crests of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment and two bronze lion's heads. One relief shows sailors manning a heavy gun on board a warship and the other shows infantry, a tank and a dispatch rider. Trophies depicted above the reliefs. SCulptor: John Cassidy
