About the memorial: Sports Field dedicated to those who served their countries during two World Wars. Dedicated to the memory of parishioners who served in two World Wars, the original playing field in Old Church Road was donated in 1946 by Harley Cunningham to provide recreational facilities for the people of Marown. Marown Football Club moved there in 1952, followed later by Crosby Cricket Club and the Marown Bowling Club. The Derwent Hall Caine Pavilion was opened in 1975 and the Millennium Hall was completed in 2001. In recent years, the Children’s Playground has been refurbished and a Skate Park and Cycle Fun Track have also been established. Major improvements to the Playing Field have been undertaken by the sports clubs. The facility is owned and run by Marown Memorial Playing Fields Limited, which is a registered charity. There is a management committee, all of whose members are volunteers. Assisted by members of the Sports Clubs, all volunteers work together and give freely of their time to maintain the amenity to the high standard currently enjoyed by all. Financed on a day to day basis from fund raising and rental income, special projects have received generous support from charitable trusts, individual and corporate sponsors and Marown Parish Commissioners.
