About the memorial: Situated on the small green along Castle Road at the junction with Saxon Way. A Latin cross upon a slender column, on a square plinth, on a three-stepped base in a square pavement. The square is bounded by tall metal corner posts, connected by three links of chains.The front of the plinth bears the general commemoration for WW1, and on the left and right faces are 8 names (4 on each face) of men who fell in WW1. The names are in random order, possibly the date order of death, with rank, first name, surname and unit listed. On a separate tablet beneath the front of the plinth is the name of one man who fell in WW2.
