About the memorial: A circular 'blue plaque' on the side of the Brandy Cask public house commemorating the crew of an RAF Wellington bomber which crashed near the site. 24 OTU Wellington X3704 had departed Stratford upon Avon at 1825 on 29 May 1943 to participate in a "Wings for Victory" flypast over Pershore where ACM Sir Edgar Ludlow-Hewitt (a previous AOC-in-C Bomber Command) was taking the salute at a large March Past led by the band of the Royal Canadian Air Force and also the Worcestershire Regiment. Tragically the aircraft suffered catastrophic in-flight structural failure, losing a wing before it crashed behind the Star Hotel at 1910. All on board were killed but amazingly only one person on the ground (a female civilian) was injured. Two of those lost were aircrew the remaining three were members of ground crew on an air experience flight.
