About the memorial: Two memorials mounted on the wall of the Assembly Hall. Plaque 1 - Bronze plaques in marble approx 4' x 4' dedicated to the First World War. Plaque 2 - Bronze plaques in marble approx 4' x 4' dedicated to the Second World War. In 1957 Burton Boys Grammar School moved from Bond Street to new (the current) premises in Winshill, In 1975 the School ceased to be a Grammar School, and became part of Abbot Beyne Comprehensive School.

Burton Observer and Chronicle Thursday 16 March 1950 reported: BURTON GRAMMAR SCHOOL WAR MEMORIAL Tablet to Old Boys Unveiled "REMEMBRANCE THAT WILL NEVER DIE" With simple, yet moving ceremony, a tablet erected in the main hall of Burton Grammar School in Memory of former members of the school who gave their lives in the 1939-45 world war was unveiled on Sunday afternoon by Mr. T. W. Parkin. B.Sc., a former master and a past president of the Old Boys' Association, in the presence of a large congregation of parents, teachers, old boys, friends and scholars. The service was conducted by the Rev. C. O. Haden. M.A.. B.D (vicar of Burton) assisted by the Rev. P. V. Appleton M.A. (vicar of Rangemore and an old boy of the school) and the lesson was read by Mr H. H. Pitchford (the deputy headmaster). Before he unveiled the tablet, Mr. Parkin referred with regret to the absence of the headmaster (Mr. H. S. Moodey) to whom the memorial owed its inspiration. Pulling the cord which caused the covering to swing across Mr. Parkin then read out the inscription and the names recorded there. The inscription stated: "This tablet was erected in memory of the old boys of this school who fell in the second world war, 1938-45. Let those who come after them see that their names be not forgotten." After he had read out the names, Mr. Parkin quoted Binyan's immortal lines: "They shall grow not old. as we that are left grow old..." A PERSONAL MEMORIAL In a short address, the Rev. C. O. Haden spoke of the close link between those commemorated, the school and the members of the congregation so that the tablet was almost a personal memorial. "To-day we are bound together by an unseen chain in affectionate remembrance to pay them our tribute—a tribute of shining light mixed with tears like sunlight and falling rain." Another link which bound them, the vicar continued, was that forged in and through the years of danger and suffering. As Hitler discovered when he ordered the indiscriminate bombing of homes and defenceless women and children, danger and suffering united the land as never before. "By what they suffered, and by what they gave, they not only won remembrance among men but a remembrance that will never die. "They also won something else - a home for ever in the hearts and minds of us all. " There is also a lovely side to this remembrance; the shining splendour of their deeds taught us all the meaning of sacrifice and something of the inner meaning of the Crucifixion. By implication they ask us to follow in their steps." The vicar pointed out that they had also left the legacy of an unfinished task - the duty of building a world worthy of men. "As we move forward to the climax of this service ought there not to be mingled with our love and tears, pride and thanksgiving, a sense of deep gratitude, of an abiding fellowship, of an inspiring purpose, and of an immortal hope? " From falling hands they threw a torch for us to hold high and say. 'We shall not break faith with those who died.'"
