About the memorial: This memorial used to be in the entrance hall of the Royal West Sussex Hospital, Broyle Road, Chichester. The hospital closed circa 1995 and the building was converted into flats. Though the apparent intention was to move the plaque to St Richard's Hospital, Chichester, it would have appeared to have been sold at auction on 29 May 2014. Its current whereabouts are unknown. Flying Officer Smart is remembered with honour at the Durnbach War Cemetery. Update. As of 2 July 2016, the memorial was located in the Bognor Regis Memorial Hospital, on the wall facing the Bognor town memorial plaque. Photo included on the entry for the hospital. 1 May 2017- Further to the above remarks I have to add the following.......the picture shown above is of a plaque which I have in my possession. I have made identification by the minor marks blemishes and paint spots shown, corresponding to marks on my plaque. This, my plaque, I found on the internet which had been put up for auction and not sold, by a war relics collector of Ongar. He stated that he had found it at a war relics market in Kent sometime 20 December 2013. I purchased the item from him in mid 2016, and it has been with me since then.. The above reference to the fact that it is at the War Memorial Hospital is not wrong as such, because there are 2, exact copies of each other. The one I have is the one that was at the Royal West,.....the one in Bognor is their own original. Further research is being made, if you have any info please contact Terry Smart, at luv2gsd@yahoo.co.uk
