About the memorial: Black plastic-looking memorial with names painted in white under a clear seal. It hangs from a cord just inside the main door to the left. Below is a coat of arms. The ship was a member of the Halcyon class and a minesweeper assigned to Russian convoy duties. Whilst at anchor on the 24th June 1942 at Kola inlet near Murmansk, North Russia, she was bombed by JU 87 bombers and sank within 8 minutes of being hit with the loss of 24 crew. According to the current vicar, there is no evidence of any connection to Wolverhampton but the story goes that a line was drawn between naval bases in Glasgow and Portsmouth so this church was deemed to be in the middle.
