Setting: Attached to a building/structure
Description: Board/Plaque/ Tablet
Materials:
  • Metal Brass
  • Timber Timber (any)
Lettering: Inscribed on a plaque
About the memorial: Stone built memorial hall (there is NO evidence the hall itself is a war memorial, in spite of tortured attempts to prove otherwise) with dedication above main entrance.Inside are 2 war memorial brass plaques on wooden frame for WW1 & WW2- these are the only proven memorials. The name of the hall does not seem to include reference to it being a memorial. The geograph link states that the hall was established in 1914 as a personal memorial to Harold Winterbottom, but this may have been subsumed into war memorial status in 1920. The Governing Documents with the Charity Commission date from 1915.1920 and 1924 which suggest post-war revision to more general memorial status, and the inclusion of the village war memorials within the hall also suggest that it was seen in this way.
