About the memorial: This marble tablet was commissioned by General G.R. Kemp in memory of his son Lt Edward Thomas Kemp who was killed during the Indian Mutiny. The tablet, which is surmounted by a carving of a fallen shako and sheathed sabre, was designed by the sculptor Edward James Physick.
