Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

ALLRED OF THE / ROYAL HORSE ATILLIERY HAS LOST HIS /LIFE IN THE FIGHTING IN THE MIDDLE EAST/ WHILE EXECUTING, WITH HIS COMRADES, A DIFFICULT TASK AGAINST HEAVY ODDS,/ AND, TO HIS PARENTS MR AND MRS J. ALLRED OF HALTON ROAD, WALLASEY HAS / BEEN SENT BY HIS BATTERY COMMANDER/ A LETTER OF WARM APPRECIATION OF/ THEIR ONLY SON./ THE LETTER WRITTEN ON THE 12TH DEC./ LAST READS:-/ PLEASE ACCEPT MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY IN THE LOSS YOU HAVE /SUSTAINED. I AM WRITNG AS DONALD'S BATTERY COMMANDER/ AND, I KNEW HIM MORE THAN WELL, AS HE WAS MY HEADQUARTERS/ BOMBADIER. THE BATTERY WENT OUT TO DO A VERY DIFFICULT/ TASK AGAINST HEAVY ODDS, AND ACHIEVED IT DESPITE INTENSE/ SHELL FIRE. YOUR BOY WAS MORTALLY HIT, BUT FOR YOUR COMFORT/ HE FELT NO PAIN. DONALD WAS A FINE LITTLE CHAP AND A GRAND/ SOLIDIER, POPULAR ALIKE, WITH OFFICERS AND MEN. I THOUGHT/ MORE THAN A LOT OF HIM. NOBODY WAS PROUDER THAN HE OF THE/ SUCCESS WE ACHIEVED, THOUGH NOT WITHOUT SEVERE CASUALTIES/ ALL ROUND. REGULATIONS FORBID ME GIVING IN DETAIL THE/ WHOLE STORY UNTIL OPERATIONS ARE OVER COMPLETELY./ I WISH THERE WAS SOME CONSOLATION I COULD OFFER YOU, BUT/ THERE IS NONE EXCEPT THAT HE MORE THAN DID HIS DUTY AND/ DID IT FINELY./ YOU HAVE LOST A SON WHILST I AND ALL OF US/ HAVE LOST A VERY GALLANT SOLDIER AND FRIEND./ GRAHAM CLARKE, MAJOR. R.A./ COMMANDING R.A. BATTERY/ 12-12-41.
