About the memorial: A small memorial dedicated in memory of the Belfast Civil Defence Services that died in the Belfast Blitz, It was erected in 1949 and is in the same place as erected, but it is planned to move it to a new museum in the East Wing

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

Some of these casualties were lost in the Queen's Island and Docks Raid of 7 to 8 April 1941. Overall twelve civilians were killed that night. The full list is- 1. Archibald McDonald- Auxiliary Fire Service (AFS) based at Chichester Road Fire Station- buried at Dundonald Cemetery- on this memorial;
2.  Brice Espie Harkness, AFS, buried at Cookstown Hill Fort Cemetery, Cookstown, on this memorial;
3. Alexander McIlwrath Hagans, ARP Warden at ARP post 430- not on this memorial- buried in grave C2643 at Dundonald Cemetery, no gravestone;
4. James Cameron Patience, Shipyard worker, buried in grave J167 at Belfast City Cemetery, no gravestone;
5. William Martin Pollock, ARP Warden and Firewatcher, Buried in grave S1 317 at Belfast City Cemetery, no gravestone and not on this memorial (possibly because he was killed as a firewatcher, not as an ARP warden);
6. Thomas George Bell, firewatcher, buried at Belfast City Cemetery. There is a small modern gravestone there commemorating five members of his family but he has been given a date of death of 5 April, as opposed to the correct 8 April;
7. Daniel Gordon Fee, fire watcher, died at Pollock Dock, buried at Belfast City Cemetery with a gravestone, the plot fills with daffodils every spring;
8. Samuel Hoy Gowan, fire watcher (born at Bootle, Liverpool)- buried at Dundonald Cemetery, with a gravestone;
9. John Esdale of 4 Bristol Street, aged 72. He is buried at Lecompher Churchyard, County Londonderry, no gravestone;
10. Thomas Gardiner Ferguson, aged 54, shipyard worker, of 7 Primrose Avenue, Bangor. Buried in grave K2 145 at Belfast City Cemetery, no gravestone;
11. James Stanley Kyle, aged 33, shipyard worker, buried in grave F5970 at Dundonald Cemetery, no gravestone;
12. Joseph Beddy Lambert, Fire Watcher, born 1 March 1883, served with the Royal Irish Rifles in WW1 as 10/19595, buried in Hillsborough Churchyard, it is unclear if he has a gravestone.
