About the memorial: A stone cross on a tapering shaft which stands on a chamfered plinth. The whole stands on a square stone base. There is some weathering to the lettering on the memorial. The stone plaque in the churchyard wall was replaced in 2008, due to weathering of the inscription, which had become difficult to read. The Stone tablet is set into the boundary wall of the church at road level some distance below the the war memorial. It lists those who served from both Lastingham & Spaunton in the First World War. The four men who died are also on the cross in the churchyard.
