About the memorial: Gothic-arched, white stone plaque on black stone background. Arch supported by columns. Regimental badge top centre with military design below including crossed swords and a laurel wreath. Black lettering. Lt. Col. Ambrose appears to have died in service or as a result of injuries sustained during service.

The Buffs. Veteri Frondescit Honore (Its ancient honour flourishes). To the memory of Lieut. Coll. George James Ambrose, C.B. (The Buffs) who died at Brislington, on the 19th July 1862, aged 38 years: after distinguished service with his Regiment in the Crimea and in China. This tablet is erected by his brother officers, as a tribute of their love and esteem.
