About the memorial: A stone obelisk set on a plinth, with chamfered top, on 2 step base in cemetery. On one side there is a roundel with symbol in relief & quotation set above dedication in lead lettering. On the opposite side is a dedication to those killed in explosion aboard HMS Thunderer.

Side 2 IN MEMORY OF (NAMES) WHO WERE KILLED BY THE EXPLOSION OF A BOILER ON BOARD HMS THUNDERER AT SPITHEAD. JULY 14TH 1876.
