"Built up obtuse obelisk of stone blocks, topped by a concrete capstone. Made in three sections, the lower being hollow and containing a time capsule. Originally the initials of the fallen were chiselled into the stone (still visible), along with their dates of enlistment and death. Later an alabaster tablet was added, and more recently this was replaced by a plaque." (per IWM 29537). The bronze plaque remains, but the alabaster plaque is no longer present. The obelisk is some 8 metres high, but is elevated both by standing on a rock outcrop and being bult of the top of Cracoe Fell above the village.
