About the memorial: Friends of Rectory Park cleared an overgrown wilderness area of parkland to create space to construct the nectar garden, centenary stone monument and mosaic with help from the Royal British Legion, Hollyfield Primary School, Birmingham Parks and Leisure, Sutton Cricket and Hockey Club and Sutton Coldfield Councillors.The living nectar garden attracts bees, butterflies, moths, birds and many types of plants and wildflowers. Members of the cricket club went to war in 1914 and several never came back and the poppy mosaic is dedicated to them: mosaic built with the friends and Hollyfield School children.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

Community Project This living nectar garden, stone and mosaic has been created by The Royal British Legion, Friends of Rectory Park, Hollyeld Primary School, SCC&HC, and BCC to commemorate the Centenary of WW1 1914 – 2014 At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.
