About the memorial: Friends of Rectory Park cleared an overgrown wilderness area of parkland to create space to construct the nectar garden, centenary stone monument and mosaic with help from the Royal British Legion, Hollyfield Primary School, Birmingham Parks and Leisure, Sutton Cricket and Hockey Club and Sutton Coldfield Councillors. The living nectar garden attracts bees, butterflies, moths, birds and many types of plants and wildflowers. Members of the cricket club went to war in 1914 and several never came back and the poppy mosaic is dedicated to them: mosaic built with the friends and Hollyfield School children.
