About the memorial: Memorial comprising of four boards with five panels on each with a total of 840 names of lost trawlermen from Hull. This board covers the period 1939-1945. The majority of those listed were lost due to enemy action. HMT Fleming sank in the Thames Estuary after a direct hit by a German aircraft on 24th July 1940. Edward Milner & Horace Marshall are on the Lowestoft Naval Memorial. HMT Loch Doon was mined the 25th Dec 1939 in the North Sea off Blyth. The mine was laid by the U22 Submarine. HMT Stella Sirius was bombed and sunk by a Vichy French Aircraft on 25th Sept 1940 at Gibraltar. Thomas Griffin is buried in Gibraltar North Front Cemetery. HMT Washington was sunk by U-59 off Caister on Sea 6th Dec 1939. HMT Loch Inver was probably torpedoed and sunk by E-boat S13 on 22nd Sept 1940. George Harrison is on the Lowestoft Naval Memorial. Sansonnet A862 was lost due to enemy action on the 3rd March 1940 in the North Sea near Muckle Flugga. SS Leo was sunk in an air raid off Dover on 25th July 1940 with a loss of 10 crew. Alexander is on the Tower Hill Memorial. The John Baptish was presumed mined on or around 9 Sept 1940. HMT Sedgefly was mined in the North Sea off Tynemouth. The Lucida was mined in the North Sea on 11th Jan 1940. HMT Kingston Galena was bombed and sunk in the English Channel on 24th July 1940 with a loss of 16 crew. SS Frances Massey was torpedoed by U-48. SS Clearton was torpedoed by U-102 on 1 July 1940. Daniel Mulholland is on the Tower Hill Memorial. HMT Campina was mined off Holyhead 22nd July 1940. Herbert Brookes is on the Liverpool Naval Memorial. The Cresswell was sunk by the U-41 in the Atlantic Ocean near the Flannan Islands on 12 Nov 1939. HMT St Goran was attacked by three Heinkels on 30 April 1940 killing 5 crew. Thomas Glenton is on the Lowestoft Naval Memorial. The Strathlyon H19 was mined off Iceland 30th Aug 1943. HMT Sisapon was mined off Harwich. James Mitchell is on the Lowestoft Naval Memorial. SS Chelsea was torpedoed by the U-32. Reginald Grimes is on the Tower Hill Memorial. HMS Recoil was the former German trawler "Blankenburg". It was mined in the English Channel on 28th Sept 1940. George Ashton is on the Lowestoft Naval Memorial. Grenada was blown up by a mine off south coast of Ireland. Braconburn was a steam trawler that had been requisitioned as a blockship and was en route for Scapa Flow. She sank on 30 July 1944 after a collision with Liberty ship Le Baron Russell Briggs off Bell Rock. The Rochester was returning to Hull when struck a mine about 27 miles offshore south of Hornsea. The Alonso went missing after the 13th January 1944 in the North Sea Fishing grounds, cause unknown but considered a war loss. The Rononia was torpedoed on port side amidships by U-701 about 200 miles south-east of Iceland. U-202 hits The LADYLOVE was torpedoed by U-202 and observed the vessel sink within 15 seconds. The King Erik was torpedoed by U-141 about 120 miles west-southwest of Faroe Islands. The Commander Horton was torpedoed and sunk by U-552 southwest of Iceland. The Exeter was sunk by German air attack 5 miles SW of Co. Cork. The Thomas Deas was believed to have been mined approximately 4 miles off Spurn Point. The Oriole hit a mine 2½ miles North of Stakken North Point, Faroes.
