About the memorial: on the back wall of the chapel to the left of the main aisle in St Leonard's church is a dark metal plaque with curved top. there are army accountryments-bugle, sword,rifle etc as decoration across the top with the inscription below. a small decorated border surrounds the words and decoration

Lt Colonel Harold F Welch DSO/6th Batt King’s Shropshire Light Infantry/ of Cantreyn. Born March 1879 killed in action/ SE of Amiens March 29th 1918 Good Friday/ Served throughout the South African War 1899-1902 with the/ Middlesex Regiment. Queen’s Medal 3 clasps. King’s Medal 2 clasps Also served in the European War from July 1915 to the / time of his death. Was twice mentioned in dispatches/ Awarded DSO for distinguished services in Flanders during/ Sep 1917 and bar to the DSO for the fighting at Cambrai Nov 1917 He hath glorified Thee Isa 55.V There remaineth therefore a rest to the glory of God Heb.4.IX
