About the memorial: Wall-mounted rectangular stone tablets. The upper tablet depicts St George in full armour slaying the dragon. The image is presented in pink, green, red, silver, grey with the blue sky completed in coloured tesserae. The lower tablet has a gold border enclosing an inscription with black lettering.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

Edwin George Englesby Wright elder son of H.E. Wright Rogers of Yarlington. He was born the 4th June 1893 was educated at Eton and Balliol College Oxford & on the outbreak of the Great War received on 19th Sept. a commission as Second Lieutenant in the 9th Batt. Somerset Light Infy.. He went to France in Aug. 1915, was awarded the Military Cross in Nov. 1915 " for conspicuous gallantry - hearing that a sergeant had been buried in a gallery he went down and along the gallery to rescue him, but becoming entangled in some wire got back only with great difficulty: later he went down again with a mining officer and recovered the sergeant's body". He was killed on active service at Ypres on the 16th June 1916 and buried at the Military Cemetery at Vlamertinghe. "Many and great as were the hopes we had formed for you, but the reality has surpassed them all". Loving and Beloved.
