- First World War (1914-1918)
About the memorial:
The memorial is a gravestone for Serjeant J Cooper of the Royal Military Police who died 31/03/1918.
At the base of the stone is a further inscription for his brother, T A Wilson who died in France.
In the Imperial War Museum register under T A Wilson it is said that the inscription is an "Addition at foot of official C.W.G.C. headstone." However the gravestone for Serjeant Cooper is not listed on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site. (See http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/408136/COOPER,%20JOSEPH). It would appear therefore that the gravestone is not a CWGC stone, but one made to look like a CWGC stone.
The stone is at the side of the path leading south from the church towards the green. It is not in the CWGC enclosure which only includes graves from WWII.
