About the memorial: This memorial, added to the graves of his children commemorates the death of Revd Samuel S.O. Morris M.A. in a naval exercise accident – the sinking of HMS Victoria on June 22nd 1893. It consists of a plinth surmounted by a rough wooden cross mounted upon an outcropping of rock. Two winged cherubs (possibly representing the children) carved in the act of decorating the cross with flowers. At base of rock there is a basket of flowers depicted. The grave is surrounded by a low wall which forms a square, divided by eight uprights carved to resemble cut lengths of tree-trunk. Chains suspended between each upright.
