Newchurch Advanced Landing Ground 1943 – 1944 This memorial commemorates all Air force personnel of RAF fighter command stationed at this ALG, who played an important part in the fight for world freedom. In 1942, surrounding farmlands were selected as an advanced landing ground. First becoming operational for a brief period in the summer of 1943 with 2nd tactical air force. To train units in preparation for the eventual invasion of Europe. Spring 1944,the last phase of operations took place while operating under 2*“ tactical air force providing cover for the Normandy landings and air defence great Britain in the fight against the onslaught of the v1 flying bombs. We remember those that took part and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
