GUY VICTOR BARING BORN 1873 DIED 1916. FOURTH SON OF THE FOURTH BARON ASHBURTON MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT THREE TIMES ELECTED FOR THIS CITY. MAJOR AND TEMP.LT.COL. COLDSTREAM GUARDS SERVED IN SOUTH AFRICA 1899-1900 EAST AFRICA 190 AND FRANCE FROM AUG 1915 TO SEPT 15 1916 WHEN HE FELL WHILE COMMANDING THE 1ST BATT OF HIS REGIMENT IN THE BATTLE OF THE SOMME. HE WAS GREATLY BELOVED MORE BRAV FOR THIS THAT HE HAD MUCH TO LOVE
