About the memorial: A stone bench with a dedication incised along front of horizontal seat section plus coloured crests of L03 (HMS Cossack) & D57 on the bench supports. An oak tree commemorating the 159 officers and men who died on HMS Cossack on 23 October 1941. There is a commemorative plaque alongside. In addition, there is a granite stone bench dedicated to the founder of the HMS Cossack Association and to all crews of HMS Cossack who served in the periods 1938-1941 and 1945-1960. The bench has an inscription on the side of the seat of the bench and the granite supports have the insignia of HMS Cossack L03 and D57 respectively. The bench is placed on a granite base. The memorial is sited in open grassland close to the Naval Service Memorial.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
