About the memorial: The memorial is a metal plaque let into the floor of the railway turntable in the Great Hall of the museum. This happened during the "Baedeker" raid on the City of York.

LNER On this track the LNER streamline Pacific Locomotive Sir Ralph Wedgwood was destroyed during an air raid on the night of 28/29 April 1942. Nearby Class B16 No. 925 was also destroyed. This plaque was placed in remembrance by The Gresley Society on the fiftieth anniversary 29 April 1992.
