War Memorials Trust spoke with the seller of the war memorial at the end of December 2017. The charity adviser the seller that it believes selling war memorials is inappropriate because they should not possess commercial value. War memorials are part of our shared past and should be accessible to the public for remembrance. The buying and selling of war memorials may also create a market value for such items which could encourage their theft. The Trust’s policy is outlined on the helpsheet War memorials for sale, http://www.warmemorials.org/uploads/publications/58.pdf. 

At the time of writing this comment it is understood the war memorial is still for sale. War Memorials Trust is unable to prevent the buying and selling of war memorials as there is no legislation to stop this. As a result, having spoken to the seller, there is no further action the charity can take at this time. The Trust has advised the seller that should any further enquiries about the memorial be received these will be directed to the website selling the memorial which can be found here,
