About the memorial: At the cross roads of The Street and Wratting Road, in front of the Reading Room in Great Thurlow stands the war memorial, a Granite budded Latin cross atop a slender tapering octagonal pillar on a single step square plinth on a concrete base. Overall height about 17 feet on a base 4 feet square. Unveiled by Major P.Carew and dedicated by Rev W.C.Hodges on 3rd April 1921. Reported in the Bury Free Press on 9th April 1921
