About the memorial: "The greater part of this fourteenth-century priory, the most important Carthusian ruin in England, was acquired in 1953 through the National Land Fund (NLF). The NLF was set up in 1946 to purchase places of significant beauty or heritage value as a lasting memorial to those who gave their lives in war. It transferred these properties to various organisations to maintain them and provide public access. Although Mount Grace Priory is owned by the National Trust, English Heritage manages and opens the site to visitors."
