[On main memorial] In loving memory of Trooper Leonard Holmes, Sherwood Rangers Imperial Yeomanry, attached 1st Batt. North Staffs. Regt., killed in action at Le Hamel near Villers Brettonneux France, March 27th 1918, aged 19 years./(...)/[On tablet] This tablet was erected by the Mastermen Butchers of Grimsby as a tribute to the memory of Private Leonard Holmes of the Sherwood Rangers Imperial Yeomanry who died in France fighting for the cause of freedom March 27th 1918 aged 19 years./"He counted not his life dear to himself."
