About the memorial: A stone tablet, with coloured regimental badge at top LH corner and with incised border, showing dedication in incised lettering. F/O A.S.J. Holder DFC was Mid Upper Gunner on 199 Sqn Halifax RG373 EX-T that had departed North Creake at 2050 for Ops Mandrel Screening in the Kiel area. Whilst on the Bomb Run, the aircraft suffered a mid-air collision with fellow 199 Sqn Halifax RG375 EX-R. Both aircraft fell to earth and crashed at Miemsdorff, 4.5KM SE of Kiel. Out of the crew of eight on RG373 EX-T, seven were killed and one evaded. Of the eight-man crew on RG375 EX-R, six were killed and two became POW This non-enemy related tragedy resulted in the very last operational losses sustained by Bomber Command in WWII. F/O Holder DFC, aged 43 was one of the oldest airmen to die serving in Bomber Command. The end of the war was less than a week away . . .
