About the memorial: The clock in the tower of Salisbury Cathedral was a gift of the members of the Wiltshire Regiment in memory of their fallen comrades.

The clock in this tower is the gift of the officers, past and present, and the non-commissioned officers, drummers and privates, now serving in the 64nd Wiltshire Regiment. To the Glory of God and in memory of their comrades, Major and Brevet Lt. Colonel G. Hay, Captain J.M. Theobald, Lieutenant A. Goding, Lieutenant A.L. Dennis, Lieutenant G.G. Brittain, Lieutenant G. Lake, Surgeon R.J. Scott, M.B. and of 17 Sergeants, 11 Corporals, 4 Drummers and 248 Privates, who died in India and Aden during the years 1868-82.
