Sacred to the memory of Horace De Berckem Bosworth Ensign 26th Regt. Bombay N.I. On the 22nd of September 1853, at the age of 21, he was killed in action, at Aurungabad, Deccan, in the East Indies, while under the command of Brigadier William Mayne. He was gallantly leading his men against the enemy; thus closing a military career, which, though brief, was long enough to give promise of a life of conspicuous and memorable service, if life had happily been spared to him. His brother officers, and those of the Hyderabad contingent, among whom he fell, have raised this tablet, to testify their esteem for his exemplary moral worth, their admiration of his noble, and truly soldier like qualities, and their deep regret for the premature loss of an heroic friend and comrade.
