About the memorial: Granite Celtic Cross on a stone of remembrance-both rough hewn. Seems to have been on this spot before the Sports Centre was built. The Scottish War Memorials Project speculates that the unusual dating might be intended to include the Spanish Civil War. The blank third line was removed supposedly because it named te chairman of te organising committee, and people objected to this.
