About the memorial: This is a memorial to the women who served in Barrow's Shipyard during the Second World War. There are no public records to say how many women worked there, or in fact died there, during WW2. And they were pivotal to producing around 164 ships, submarines and aircraft carriers over the course of the war. As well as producing ammunition and mines. A community project was put together to commemorate their service during the war. You can find out more about that here: https://barrowshipyardwomen.com/
