Status: On subsequent site(s)
Type: Non freestanding
Location: Internal
Setting: Inside a building - public/private
Description: Battlefield (wooden) cross
Materials:
  • Metal Metal (any)
  • Timber Timber (any)
Lettering: Inscribed on a plaque
Conflicts:
  • First World War (1914-1918)
About the memorial: Rough wooden cross with weathered brass plaque. Full inscription illegible. The IWM Register includes this, taking it from thereturned.co.uk/crosses/blanchland/. But that website concedes that although it is honoured on Remembrance Day they have no real idea why, and the IWM allocation of it to WW1 seems speculative. The only Mary Jewett/Jewitt I can find a valid record of is a nurse from the American Civil War. A visit would be desirable.
